exclusive excerpt and giveaway. Read more and enter to win below!

Excerpt from Rider of the Crown

Imogen, warrior of the Kirkellan tribes,
marries the King of their long-time enemy the Ruskalder. Her obedience is the
price of her people’s safety, but she can be pushed only so far:

Hrovald

slammed his fist down on the high table. “You will do as I command!”

Imogen stared

the King down. Her fear for Dorenna and for Elspeth had drained her ability to

fear anything else. “Think again, husband,” she said softly. “You have no right

to force me. I am your wife because I choose to be. I follow your rules because

I choose to do so. You may think of me as a Ruskalder wife, but I swore oath to

a Kirkellan husband, and no Kirkellan husband has the right to insist I not

follow my conscience when someone’s life is at stake. So, husband, I intend to return to that room and continue caring for

Elspeth North, and you should think very carefully about how far you’re willing

to go to stop me.”

Hrovald glared

furiously at her. His fingers curled into a fist, and briefly Imogen remembered

the treaty, and the Kirkellan, and Ruskalder warriors slaughtering her people.

If she didn’t back down, what might he decide to do? Enough, she thought. I’m not
going to be a hostage anymore. If he breaks the treaty, it’s on his head, and
we Kirkellan will just have to endure. As we always do. She straightened

her spine. She wasn’t some frail Ruskalder woman. She was a warrior of the

Kirkellan, and she would show this man no fear.

Imogen, warrior of the Kirkellan tribes, has never wanted to be anything else. But when the long war between the Kirkellan and the country of Ruskald ends, the terms of the peace treaty require Imogen to be married to the vicious King of Ruskald for five years. Confined to his freezing city, forbidden to fight, Imogen sees nothing but darkness in her future—until the arrival of Elspeth North, heir to the Crown of Tremontane, brings three countries to the brink of war and sets Imogen free.

Now, sent to be the ambassador of her people to Tremontane, Imogen faces new challenges as she struggles to maintain her warrior’s identity in a world of glittering ballrooms and foreign customs. As a diplomat, Imogen discovers skills she never knew she had—as well as a forbidden attraction to the handsome and charismatic King Jeffrey North. But when war once again threatens not only Tremontane but her own people, Imogen must decide: is she the warrior, the diplomat—or something greater?

Alison Quinn, Countess of Waxwold, is content with her bookish life—until she’s summoned to be a lady-in-waiting to the Queen of Tremontane’s mother for six months. Even the prospect of access to the Royal Library doesn’t seem enough to make up for her sacrifice, but Alison is prepared to do her service to the Crown. What she’s not prepared for is Prince Anthony North, Queen Zara’s playboy brother, who’s accustomed to getting what he wants—including the Countess of Waxwold.

When the fallout from an unfortunate public encounter throws the two of them together, Alison has no interest in becoming the Prince’s next conquest. But as the weeks pass, Alison discovers there’s more to Anthony than she—or he—realized, and their dislike becomes friendship, and then something more—until disaster drives Alison away, swearing never to return.

Then Alison is summoned by the Queen again, this time to serve as Royal Librarian. A threat to Tremontane’s government, with her treasured Library at stake, draws Alison into the conflict…and into contact with Anthony once more. Can they work together to save the Royal Library and Tremontane? And can she open her heart to love again?

GRAND FINALE: If Not for a Bee

On tour with Prism Book Tours.

Grand Finale for
If Not for a Bee
By Carol Ross

Did you miss any of the posts or fabulous reviews from this tour?
If you did, go back and check them all out now!

Launch - Interview

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

We all wrestle with challenges of one kind or another. Aidan, Janie and her boys, Gareth and Reagan all struggle with adversity in some form. I think it’s important to face your fears, fight them, smother them, whatever it takes. There is a way to figure out how to work through them. I hope that If Not for a Bee shows how even the most seemingly impossible obstacle can be scaled.

Katie's Clean Book Collection - How it All Came to Bee

In my mind, Shay James, heroine from A Case for Forgiveness (book #2), was already telling me her story so I wrote that one first. Janie also happens to be Shay’s cousin and best friend and plays a small part in that story, too. So by the time I started writing If Not for a Bee much of it was already buzzing around (sorry, I just can’t seem to stop the bee puns) in my head. I think this is largely because Janie’s character was already so well-formed she was like a real person to me. Like a sister. Still, I was surprised at how this book flowed like nothing I’ve ever written before. Not so surprising was the fact that Janie turned out to be a lot like my sister; a woman whose devotion to those she loves does the words “mother,” “daughter,” and “sister” proud.

Zerina Blossom's Books - Ten Books that Hooked Me by the First Page and Never (Ever) Let Go

I’ve heard time again over the years that in order to be an effective writer you must also be a reader. I always thought, well, good at least I’ve got part of it down. Now that I am an author, I truly see the importance. And, like most authors I know, I never seem to have enough time to read. So I make time—I ruthlessly carve out time. I will sacrifice sleep, outings with friends, housework (is that a sacrifice?) meals (okay, maybe not meals). But you get my meaning. I love to read. And I love to talk about books.

"If you enjoy heartwarming stories about family, overcoming loss and learning to live again, this one is not to be missed!"

"There’s a surprising amount of character depth in this story, which added richness to the narrative – and we also learn about bees through Aidan’s native-bee-population study. All of the main characters faced adversity in some form, physical or emotional, and this is something to which any reader can relate. . . . If Not for a Bee is a very satisfying romance and I look forward to more from Carol Ross. Recommended."

"You will love the way the story unfolds and how sweet the story and characters are. I will probably go back to read the other two though I already know who ends up with whom. :) It’s all good. If you need a quick, cute romance, check this one out!"

underneath the covers - Dating in the Extreme – Rankins Style

With its rugged countryside and dramatic seasonal changes, dating in Alaska can present some interesting challenges, or unique opportunities, depending on your point of view. Each book in my Seasons of Alaska series highlights some of these circumstances.

Letters from Annie (Douglass) Lima - What’s Your Bee Story?

There are certain critters that in spite of their diminutive stature, never fail to strike fear in the hearts of even the bravest among us - snakes, spiders, rats, bats. I’ve even seen people get the

heebie-jeebies over cockroaches and ants. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that induces sheer terror quite the way a bee does.

deal sharing aunt - Interview

5. What do you think makes a good story?

Characters. Not surprisingly, I tend to fall in love with characters (my own and those from my favorite books). My favorite characters are relatable ones, flawed people with good hearts who want to do the right things.

"Readers will love the easily relatable characters and touching and uplifting story of overcoming hard things in life and learning to love and forgive. The third installment of the Seasons of Alaska series will not disappoint readers. In fact,If Not for a Bee is the type of book readers will want to curl up and read over and over again."

3. What writing projects are you currently working on? What can you tell us about these projects?

I just finished a Thanksgiving short story for Harlequin that will be available as a free read some time in November. The story is set in Rankins, but with some never-before-seen characters that I love. Oh, and a dog! Book four in the Seasons of Alaska series, A Family Like Hannah’s is finished and will be out February 1st. I’m hoping that readers will be excited to learn that Hannah, Shay’s sister in A Case for Forgiveness is getting her own story. Excited to be working on a proposal now for some new Heartwarming books.

Chill Reviews - Review

"Janie learned to see beyond their pain and see that sometimes an outsider can see things that you can't when you're in the thick of things. I think you all would enjoy this feel good romance. It is a part of a series but I did not feel like I was missing anything."

Wishful Endings - Ten Things I’ve Learned (and Love) About Alaska

“Have you ever lived in Alaska?”After writing four books and a short story for the Seasons of Alaska series this is a question I’ve heard often. As well as, “I want to live in Rankins.” Both make my heart soar with joy. Because to me this means I’m getting certain things right. Important things. All of the Seasons of Alaska stories are set in the remote town of Rankins. And while the town might be fictional, I’ve done my best to keep the essence of Alaska accurate.

GRAND FINALE BLITZ: When the Right One Comes Along

On tour with Prism Book Tours.

Grand Finale for
When the Right One Comes Along
By Kate James

Did you get to know a little more about K-9 Officer Calen Palmer and his dog, Scout, as well as Trauma Surgeon Jessica Hansen? If you missed any of the posts on this tour, you can go check them out now...

Launch - Intro to the Series
My October 1st release, When the Right One Comes Along, is the first book in my K-9 trilogy. It is the story of trauma surgeon Jessica Hansen and San Diego Police Department search and rescue officer Cal Palmer.

" A sweet story that will warm your heart. A nice change in pace.. "

3) Who/What inspired your characters?

I take inspiration from a variety of sources. For the K-9 trilogy, the inspiration for the K-9 unit members came from real-life police officers who work tirelessly and often at great peril to themselves to protect us and keep our communities safe. Jessica Hansen was partially inspired by a good friend who is a medical doctor. She has an important and unique job.

"I enjoyed the open way Kate wrote this story. She easily explained things and made the book easy to follow and intriguing. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I look forward to the rest of the book series and hopefully she will intermix these characters with new characters."

Cal’s blood ran cold as he watched a ceiling beam tear loose to his right. Still anchored to a column by some rebars, it hurtled toward him like a battering ram.

Writing Pearls - Review
"A cozy romantic read with exuberating characters. Definitely worth the time to read."

Amanda Writes - Review
"Ms. James’ novel draws you in from page one, and leaves you feeling happy and then tormented as the crisis point breaks but eventually she brings her characters together in the most beautiful and deserving way. This is one Harlequin Heartwarming story you should not miss!"

Slice of Life - Review
"This well-written novel depicts the problems and dangers which can occur after an earthquake, as well as rescue operations, and the author also shows much knowledge concerning K-9 dogs. I would recommend When the Right One Comes Along to anyone who is interested in action and romance."

Mythical Books - Excerpt
This time Cal did lose his balance. Landing on his backside, he was catapulted down the inclined rooftop headfirst. The harness he hadn’t fully secured snapped free. He tried to twist around as the edge of the rooftop rushed toward him. He managed to turn enough so that he wasn’t leading with his head when he hit the parapet wall. He lay still for a few moments to catch his breath. His left shoulder screamed but he didn’t think it was broken. He hoped it wasn’t dislocated, either. Nothing else seemed to hurt enough to worry about.

"The characters in the book go through some rough struggles, but they are made stronger by the struggles. The romance is sweet and clean…you know I love that! I really like the theme of the story and I’m looking forward to the other two K-9 books to follow. You will be enchanted by this sweet book! I definitely recommend this to you sweet romance lovers!"

Beck Valley Books - It's All About You Guest Post
I am frequently asked what made me decide to write. There is a multitude of talented authors out there and an ever-growing plethora of wonderful choices for readers in all genres. So why did I decide to leave a successful and enjoyable business career to write? The answer is simple. It's because of you, the reader!

Jessica narrowed her eyes as she glared at the man standing before her, shirtless and leaning heavily on the shoulder of a firefighter. His simple question sounded both gruff and belligerent. Her gaze dropped to the well-muscled chest and arms, before sliding lower and seeing the makeshift tourniquet, understanding why he wasn’t wearing a shirt. “Marcia,” she called, keeping her eyes on the man but a steadying hand on the girl. “Can you please get Mr….?” She looked at the man inquiringly.

"Great characters! I really enjoyed meeting Cal & Scout and can’t wait for the future stories about their K-9 teammates!"

Dixie n Dottie - Review & Excerpt
"I loved Scout and the relationship he and Cal had."

Jessica Hansen looked much as he remembered her from the quake site. But a cleaned-up version. Seeing her in jeans, low-heeled sandals and a tank top made her seem more…approachable. The thing that struck him most was her hair—long, loose and cascading down her back. It seemed so incongruous with the prim and proper doctor he assumed her to be. Gorgeous hair, clearly intelligent and a fondness for dogs and cars. How could a guy not be captivated?

Wishful Endings - Review
"When the Right One Comes Along was a story of redemption as these characters learn to forgive themselves, in grasping the love that is in front of them, and finding family in each other. I'd recommend this one to those readers who enjoy heartfelt romance."

I Am A Reader - Excerpt
But then she looked at Cal, saw the despondency in his eyes. She wanted to help them. She really did. And yet she couldn’t deny that one contributing factor was the fact that she’d be able to see Cal…

“It’s no trouble.” Cal couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen a grown woman blush. Anna certainly never had. He found it unreasonably touching. There was something vulnerable and shy about her right then that appealed to him. “I’d like you to stay,” he added to his own amazement. He wondered if he’d hoped for it all along, since the steak he was marinating was large enough for two healthy appetites.

"This was a great book to settle in with. I loved the characters and I loved the struggle. The chemistry was there between Jessica and Cal- they knew it and I knew it too. The forward progression of this book was good and the characters were solid. I read through this book quickly because I just didn't want to put it down. Yay for a good, clean romance!"

Mel's Shelves - Excerpt
Cal couldn’t explain it, but as he watched the woman and child walking toward him, hand in hand, emotion clogged his throat. He coughed brusquely, blinked a few times and rose from the bench.

This heart-warming Harlequin K-9 Trilogy book 1, When the Right One comes Along, will touch your heart. This story is filled with characters and scenarios that readers will easily relate, comprehending the tragedy and heartache, as well as the joy and love.

Kindle and Me - Review
The story was cute and very believable. I adored the love the father had for his daughter and how Cal also wanted Kayla in his life too! Jessica was nice and encouraging as well.

Kate James spent eight years of her childhood living in foreign countries as her professional parents travelled on business. She lived in four countries and spoke five languages before settling down in Canada again to attend university. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, she held a variety of positions in the field of real estate development and operations, and ran three substantial organizations. While her writing during this period was mostly business related, including presentations and speeches she delivered both nationally and internationally, her passion is and always has been fiction.

Kate's business and personal experiences enable her to write fiction with a deep, often first-hand knowledge of what she is writing about. This approach makes Kate's stories richer and more vivid.

Kate’s goal is to entertain you with well-written, engaging stories, set in intriguing places and with strong, likeable characters. “I hope my stories bring you pleasure and entertain you. Nothing pleases me more than receiving feedback from people who have chosen to spend their valuable leisure time with one of my books,” notes Kate.

Kate married her husband, Ken, in an elegant, ocean-front wedding on a tropical island. When they are not traveling, they split their time between their properties in southern and central Ontario in Canada.

Release Day Blitz: Once Upon A Marriage

On tour with Prism Book Tours.

Release Day Blitz for
Once Upon a Marriage
By Tara Taylor Quinn

Intro to Once Upon a Marriage

This is what happens when three college friends decide to buy an old apartment building…

Welcome to the Historic Arapahoe! (If you’ve been here before, welcome back!) Though most of the residents here are elderly, they’re still getting up at five-thirty in the morning to work, they’re still going on romantic dates, changing the insides of their toilets, and protecting those around them. Including the three thirty-one-year-old friends who recently purchased the building so that the elderly, fixed income residents wouldn’t be forced into nursing homes or be put out on the street.

Who’s really taking care of whom remains to be seen. Or maybe, this is life, everyone doing what they can to take care of each other. Marie, one of the three owners, has been taking care of others most of her life. She owns the coffee shop on the first floor of the building and spends her days trying to make life a little easier, a little more pleasant for everyone around her.

There’s a stalker hanging around. And her father, a womanizer who broke up their family but also managed to be a good dad, is struggling. Marie tends to it all. And she’s still lonely. Because, ultimately, she can’t trust.

I think, in today’s world, many of us struggle with trust issues. I also believe that happiness depends on our ability to trust, and that trust is still rewarded. I’m just not sure I can convince Marie of that fact…

Once Upon A Marriage is her story.
