Dark Triumph: A Review

Goodreads (Description):

When Sybella arrived at the doorstep of St Mortain half mad with grief and despair the convent were only too happy to offer her refuge - but at a price. The sisters of this convent serve Death, and with Sybella naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, she could become one of their most dangerous weapons.

But her assassin's skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to the life that nearly drove her mad. Her father's rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother's love is equally monstrous. But when Sybella discovers an unexpected ally she discovers that a daughter of Death may find something other than vengeance to live for...

My Review:

Wow. I just ... This was such a sad book. Sybella's life sucks. She's gone through hell and back, then back again several times over. I don't really know how to write a review for this book. It was so dark and depressing.

So many horrible things happened to her, and yet she is still fighting for what's right. It certainly makes her stronger than most female leads I've read about. I can't say I connected with her though. At all. I felt puty for her.

Mainly, it was nice seeing her sucky life finally find happiness. Called love and Beast.

Beast! LOVE HIM. I loved him in the other book. He's freaking awesome. A super good fighter and a loyal friend and companion. He was the one who made the story.

This is an interesting stories because it is based off real events. I still feel like it's another Poison Study book, the characters' voices are similar. Still. I've liked it well enough.

I give this a 3.5 out of 5.

  1. This book was slower some how than the others but the best part definitely was Beast!!

  2. I loved Beast too! He's like a gentle giant. I'm curious what you'll think of the Mortal Heart. The voice for that one changes so it may not feel as Poison Study to you.
